NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE -- Howard Henry Shepherd, 65, of 186 Ricardo St. co-founder of a major boat manufacturing company died yesterday at Niagara Hospital after a long illness.

Born in Beamsville, Mr Shepherd lived most of his life in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

In 1928, he and his father started the Shepherd Boats Works in St. Catharines, and in 1939 they originated the Shepherd Boat plant in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

The plant was sold in 1958, and Mr. Shepherd worked with C and C Yachts until his retirement due to illness.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Cecilia: two daughters, Mrs. William (Margo) Van de Laar in Niagara-on-the-Lake and Mrs Douglas (Sharon) Haine in St. Catharines: two sisters. Mrs Stanley (Zeita) Hallett in St. Catharines and Mrs. Martin (Mary) Bench in McNab; and five grandchildren.

He is at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Chapel of the Gordon E. Morgan Funeral Homes. Funeral service will be held in St. Vincent de Paul Church Monday at 10 a.m.. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery.
